Patterson, NY- August, 2016
In the ongoing debate of iPhone vs camera the iPhone wins out on this one... often times when I'm out and see a shot, with no camera at my side, all I can do is mourn what could have been. Now, I just whip out my phone. Even so, I'm not entirely convinced. Don't be surprised if these pictures show up again in a few days, this time taken with my Fuji.

"Is your peanut butter and jelly locally sourced?"
Auburn, ME- August, 2016

Words that Kerry attributed to Asher after seeing this photo. Kid (Kerry that is) has a wicked sense of humor. One of the reasons why we love him (see blog entry from August 24). Asher already has a funnybone- as evidenced below- how many of us can say that laundry cracks us up?

DELETE ALL FRAMES
New York, NY- April, 2015
We love Kerry. He has soooo many good qualities however, keeping things safe, together, in one piece and unbroken are not among them. So when I loaned him my camera, I knew I was engaging in risky behavior.
The good news... my camera came back functioning, bad news.... my camera card did not fare as well.

GREEN MOUNTAIN STATE LAKE
Green Mountain Lake, Lakeside Park, Pawling, NY- August 2016
As much as I thought I'd be shooting from Vermont this week, our trip to see my brother in Arlington did not work out. What did work out was this picture from the local park. I knew that it was Lakeside Park, but mapquest provided me with the exact name of the lake. While this isn't my first iPhone photo, it's the first I'm excited about.

Throwback Thursday
(Disney Style)
(Disney Style)
Something old, something new. We used the 2004 (film) tree shot in a 2009 blog entry. Asher and Paul on Cadillac mountain is new. The summit of Cadillac Mountain at 1,528 feet is the highest point along the North Atlantic seaboard, so for that moment in June when he rode daddy's shoulders, Asher was the highest point along the North Atlantic seaboard.

Déjà vu on the Blog
While in Florida, Cindy and I went on a daytrip mission to the west coast to check out the city of Venice, possible future home to my brother Jack and his wife Debbie. We liked LOVED what we saw. While perusing the downtown, Cindy snapped a shot of a shop's prop, which reminded us of a similar shot she took (and blogged) five years ago....

Another camera
Another pond
Another post
Pawling, NY-August, 2016
I guess the state of New York hasn't gotten around to naming this small pond that sits just (technically outside our community) across the street from the much bigger Jones Pond. Looking north, looking for some shade on a hot August morning.
Apple doesn't fall far....
Apple claims that more pictures are taken with the iPhone than with any other camera. I'm certainly the exception to that rule. However, while Kerry borrows my camera to shoot a concert in Bethal, NY, I've decided to only post pictures taken on (and by mostly others) an iPhone.

GUESSING GAMES
After five plus filmless digital years, you'd think I would get it right. Once I spent a half hour searching my camera card for these two shots, I remembered that these were pictures I took with my iPhone during an overnight in Charleston, SC on our annual summer sojourn to Vero Beach. Not only were they on the phone but the phone correctly identified where they were taken... South of Broad, Charleston. Works for me.

"Same name, same attitude, without the money"
Pawling, NY- August, 2016
We met the most interesting and helpful people yesterday that enhanced our day and my photos.
First stop Jones Pond to (re)photograph the wild irises from the post of August 9. Met some new folks from Pawling Lake Estates community (actually much of the community is new to us). Spoke for a while to Ann, her daughter Anne Marie, Judy and Violet, a French septuagenarian who bonded with Cindy over her photos of Nice and Carcassonne. This delayed us on the way to our next destination - the Quaker Road section of Pawling, north of the village.
That delay put us right in the path of Steve Ewing, owner of Wingnut Farm. When he saw me trying to photograph a field of Queen Anne's lace, he offered up another location, inaccessible by car, but way more populated in terms of Queen Anne's lace. So off we went- his Irish Setter, Logan riding shotgun, Cindy and I in the truck bed.

We disagree. With that view and that dog- he is a rich man indeed.

Everything Old is New Again....
Brooklyn, NY- August, 2016
Film is back! Film last appeared on the blog back in 2010 - six and a half years ago... It's making a comeback thanks to Owen, Kerry's friend. Now Kerry wants a film camera and proclaims this the best picture ever taken of him...

30 Day Challenge
Pawling, NY- August, 2016
True confession: we've been suffering from blogsloth. Admitedly, we don't have the influx of pictures that we normally have, but that is still no excuse. So instead of a pintrest 30 day detox, clean eating, gratitude challenge we here and now vow to post for the next 30 days.
The thought is exhausing, but it's totally doable. Off we go. By the way this shot of wild irises was taken yesterday by Cindy at Jones Pond, a seven minute (downhill) walk from home. Since she took it with her iPhone, I'll go back today and show what a real camera is capable of. After that, hey, I'll have day two! This 30 day is getting easier already.

Lighting up the Blog
Spent a wonderful time in Maine last weekend, visiting grandson Asher who lights up a room, shooting area lighthouses (alas the Portland Headlight which I last photographed in August 2006, was covered in scaffolding). Cindy added a shot by a colleague, Dan Moore, of the altar at St. Peter's Basilica, the design of which allows light from a nearby stainglass window to illuminate the altar in a bath of gold light.

Fun fact- this cupola like structure, St. Peter's baldachin, by Bernini marks the spot directly above the tomb of St. Peter.
