"Same name, same attitude, without the money"

Pawling, NY- August, 2016

We met the most interesting and helpful people yesterday that enhanced our day and my photos.

First stop Jones Pond to (re)photograph the wild irises from the post of August 9.  Met some new folks from Pawling Lake Estates community (actually much of the community is new to us).  Spoke for a while to Ann, her daughter Anne Marie, Judy and Violet, a French septuagenarian who bonded with Cindy over her photos of Nice and Carcassonne.  This delayed us on the way to our next destination - the Quaker Road section of Pawling, north of the village.

That delay put us right in the path of Steve Ewing, owner of Wingnut Farm.  When he saw me trying to photograph a field of Queen Anne's lace, he offered up another location, inaccessible by car, but way more populated in terms of Queen Anne's lace.   So off we went- his Irish Setter, Logan riding shotgun, Cindy and I in the truck bed.

And if that wasn't enough, he brought us back to the farm to photograph his garden of sunflowers.  He even set up the shot- instructing me to shoot into the sun to get the best color from the flowers.  Thanking him profusely for his help, he refused to take too much credit- 'just call me Steve Ansel Adams Ewing'.  Cindy confirmed the spelling of his name... "Ewing like J.R. from Dallas?" to which he replied "same name, same attitude, without the money."

We disagree.  With that view and that dog- he is a rich man indeed.

Everything Old is New Again....

Brooklyn, NY- August, 2016

Film is back!  Film last appeared on the blog back in 2010 - six and a half years ago...  It's making a comeback thanks to Owen, Kerry's friend.  Now Kerry wants a film camera and proclaims this the best picture ever taken of him...

30 Day Challenge

Pawling, NY- August, 2016

True confession:  we've been suffering from blogsloth.  Admitedly, we don't have the influx of pictures that we normally have, but that is still no excuse.  So instead of a pintrest 30 day detox, clean eating, gratitude challenge we here and now vow to post for the next 30 days.

The thought is exhausing, but it's totally doable.  Off we go.  By the way this shot of wild irises was taken yesterday by Cindy at Jones Pond, a seven minute (downhill) walk from home.  Since she took it with her iPhone, I'll go back today and show what a real camera is capable of. After that, hey, I'll have day two! This 30 day is getting easier already.

Lighting up the Blog

Spent a wonderful time in Maine last weekend, visiting grandson Asher who lights up a room, shooting area lighthouses (alas the Portland Headlight which I last photographed in August 2006, was covered in scaffolding).  Cindy added a shot by a colleague, Dan Moore, of the altar at St. Peter's Basilica, the design of which allows light from a nearby stainglass window to illuminate the altar in a bath of gold light.

Fun fact- this cupola like structure, St. Peter's baldachin, by Bernini marks the spot directly above the tomb of St. Peter.

A Cat(a)combs (of) Rome

Rome, Italy- February, 2016

Could we be referring to the Catacombs of Rome or the thousands (estimated 300,000) of feral cats that comb the city of Rome? There is actually a huge cat sanctuary under the street at Torre Argentina - the location where Julius Caesar was murdered.  This fellow was photographed at the Coliseum

Lee, MA in Pawling, NY

Pawling, NY- May, 2016

Well, so far, the entire month of May has been in any given combination, rain, fog, showers, clouds and drizzle.  Not conducive for photography.  Never outdone, the photographer took to creating photobooks.  Walgreens is the go-to for this endeavor.  These shots were taken in Lee, MA in October, 2011 and they've been incorporated into the new compilation  Sunrise, Sunsets and more...  Today's blogpost is a picture of a page in the book, ergo the title "Lee, MA in Pawling, NY"

Eztasy in France
 Eze, France- February, 2016

Èze has been described as an Eagle's nest because it sits 1401 feet above (Mediterranean) sea level

The Jardin Botanique d'Èze boasts quite the array of cacti and succulents

Now the photographer would never bother trying to shoot on such a dreary day, but I brought along my own color

It's still early....

Pawling, NY- April, 2016

My dad was the consummate Cardinal fan.  Whenever the team had a slow start, he would remind everyone "It's still early".  Spring, 2016, like the Cardinals (12 wins, 11 losses), is off to a slow start.

Cindy takes the blog international!

Barcelona, Spain- February, 2016

Cindy's incredible class trip took her to Spain, France and Italy, where in addition to monitoring students (she and the other chaperones likened themselves to border collies) she was able to take numerous pictures for the blog.  This first shot was taken at Parc de Guelle in Barcelona, a public park designed in the early 1900s, originally intended to be a high end housing site.

New Year's
Photo
Resolution

Pawling Lake Estates, Pawling, NY- June 2015

2015 was a bad year for I create Images, what with only 12 entries.  It wasn't the all time worst (2012 with 6) but we've made a New Year's resolution to breathe some life into the blog.  For our second entry of the new year there are two shots with some interesting photo resolution going on.

Signs of our Times
God willing, after close to two years of buying, selling and renting, we are done with real estate.  I want to be done with house signs.  In Highland Falls, we had a  sign "Whispering Waters" named for the falls which ran in back of that 1860 house.  The waters weren't so whispering after Hurricane Floyd turned our dirt cellar into a swimming pool.  Neither were the winds so whispering at "Whispering Winds" in Cornwall when they knocked a forty foot oak onto our house.
We are hoping that the waves in Vero and the woods in Pawling remain whispering throughout our time here.
